Creating Courses

A course is a set of recorded lessons your students watch on their own time — no live session, no fixed hour. You build the course, add lessons (called episodes), optionally add a quiz to each one, then give a class access to it.

Creating a course​

  1. In the left sidebar, click Courses.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Fill in the form. It's split into three sections — General, Content, and Assignment.

Teachers fill themselves in

When you pick a class, every teacher already teaching that class is added to Teachers automatically. You can add or remove people afterwards — your manual changes stick.

Attaching a class announces the course

The moment you save a new course with a class attached, every student in that class gets notified about it — even if the status is still Draft. If you want to build quietly, leave Classes empty until you're ready, then add the class on Edit (editing doesn't send the announcement again). You can also switch the announcement off in Notification Settings.

Writing the course in more than one language​

Every course supports English, French, and Arabic. In the Content section you'll see a tab per language — EN, FR, AR — and you fill each in separately.

  • Only English is required. Leave French or Arabic blank and that language simply isn't saved for the course; students never see an empty tab.
  • You can come back and add a language later. Saving one language doesn't erase another.
  • Wherever the course title appears, English is shown first, falling back to whichever language you did fill in.

What each status means​

What actually controls who sees a course

Right now, whether a student can see a course depends on one thing only: is their class in the course's Classes list. The status is a label for your own team — it does not hide a course from students on its own.

So if you truly need students to stop seeing a course, remove their class from the Classes field. Setting it to Hidden or Archived is not enough yet.

Adding lessons to a course​

Lessons are called episodes. Open a course from the list and go to the Episodes tab (or use the Episodes shortcut on the course row).

  1. Click Add episode.
  2. Choose the Video provider — YouTube or Vimeo.
  3. Paste the video link into Video URL. A preview appears so you can check you've got the right video.
  4. Enter the Duration as HH:MM:SS, for example 00:09:00.
  5. Add a Title (and optional Summary) in each language you want, using the EN, FR, AR tabs. At least one language needs a title.
  6. Click Save.
Videos live on YouTube or Vimeo

QraOnline plays the video from the link you paste — you don't upload video files here. Upload your lesson to YouTube or Vimeo first, then bring the link over. If the video is unlisted on YouTube, students with the course can still watch it.

Putting lessons in the right order​

Each episode has an Order number, and the list is shown from lowest to highest. To move a lesson, edit it and change its Order. Leave gaps between numbers (10, 20, 30) if you think you'll insert lessons later — it saves renumbering everything.

Editing or deleting a lesson​

Each row on the Episodes tab has edit and delete buttons. Deleting an episode also removes its quiz and any student results for that quiz, so check before you confirm.

Adding a quiz to a lesson​

Each lesson can have one quiz. On the Episodes tab, click Manage quiz on the lesson's row. The window has two tabs: Builder and Results.

On the Builder tab:

  1. Enter the Quiz title in at least one language (EN, FR, AR tabs again).
  2. Set Pass score (%) — the mark a student needs to pass.
  3. Optionally set a Time limit in seconds. Leave it empty for no limit.
  4. Tick Allow retake if students may try again after failing.
  5. Click Add question and fill in:
    • Question text, in at least one language.
    • Single choice or Multiple choice.
    • The Answers — at least two per question. Tick the correct one(s).
    • An optional Explanation, shown to the student afterwards.
  6. Repeat for each question, then click Save quiz.
Rules the form will hold you to

Every question needs at least two answers and at least one correct answer. A Single choice question can have only one correct answer. If a save is refused, the message tells you which question is the problem.

Seeing how students scored​

Open Manage quiz on the lesson and switch to the Results tab. At the top you get Total attempts, Avg. score, and Pass rate, and below that a row per attempt showing the Student, their Score, whether they Passed or Failed, and the Date.

If nobody has taken it yet, it simply says there are no attempts.

Deleting a quiz removes all of these results, so export or note anything you need first.

Editing and deleting a course​

Open the course and click Edit. The form is the same one you used to create it, pre-filled. Saving replaces the Classes and Teachers lists with whatever you've got selected, so anyone you unticked is removed.

To delete, use Delete on the course page. This also removes the course's lessons, quizzes, and student quiz results.

Who can do this​

Viewing, creating, editing, and deleting courses are separate permissions in your role. A center owner has all of them. See Roles & Permissions.

Teachers manage the courses they're assigned to from their own portal. Students only ever see courses attached to their class.

Common questions​

A student can still see a course I set to Hidden. That's expected today — status doesn't hide a course. Remove that student's class from the course's Classes field.

Students got notified about a course I wasn't ready to show. Attaching a class on creation announces the course straight away. Next time, build the course with Classes empty and add the class on Edit.

A teacher I expected isn't on the course. Teachers are auto-filled only when you first add a class. If you removed them by hand, or re-saved the Teachers list without them, they're gone until you add them back.

The video won't preview. Check the link is a normal YouTube or Vimeo page link, and that the provider you picked matches the link.

A student says the quiz won't let them retry. Allow retake is off for that quiz. Edit the quiz and tick it.
